Last week, an individual called the company my best friend has been employed by for the better part of a decade, and threatened to withhold patronage if they did not terminate her employment, simply because this person disagreed with her beliefs and participation in social activism. Regrettably, the company in question obliged. As morally wrong as this is, Virginia is an At-Will commonwealth, and nothing can be done. Earlier this year, her living situation suddenly changed, and with that came unexpected costs. She has worked so hard to maintain a level head and put her finances straight again, only to be set back under politically discriminatory circumstances a few months later. That being said, she’s now on a journey to find her next adventure, and could use the support of our local/not so local community to make ends meet until then. Good people deserve to have good things happen to them, and if you have the means, donations would be so greatly appreciated. If not, send a little caring energy her way.
