Hi, my name is Larissa Allen. I recently graduated from Washington State University this Fall with my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, ranking within the top 5% of my class and earning the highest academic honor of Summa cum Laude (3.9-4.0 GPA).
Over the last 2.5 years of attending WSU, spent most of my time as an undergraduate to cultivating research, advocating for open science, and providing mentorship to other students. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a lead tutor, teaching assistant, research assistant, assistant lab manager, lab manager, and lead tutor, giving back to the students and faculty who had guided my own trajectories, pushing for my involvement in research, presenting nationally, and pursuing graduate study.
Earlier this fall, I finished applying to six graduate schools: The University of Missouri, The Ohio State, The University of North Carolina, Washington State University, The University of Maryland, and The University of Virginia. I hope to obtain my PhD in Quantitative or Decision-making Psychology, where I can continue the work I helped developed as an undergraduate, examining the role of context (e.g., motivation and goals, social appraisal, and greenspace) on decision-making behaviors from a quantitative, social, and cognitive lens. After graduate school I aspire to remain in academia, working as a post-doctoral researcher or professor.
Getting to this point in my career has taken years of work, sacrifice, and dedication. Although moving forward promises opportunity and growth, continuing to finance my training comes with costs that are difficult to manage alone. I'm asking for support to help cover moving and general living expenses (e.g., rent, transportation) as I begin to ready myself for this new chapter in my life.
Any contribution, even $1, helps bring me one step closer to pursuing this part of my career. If you're unable to donate at this time, sharing my GoFundMe with friends, family, coworkers, or even on social media which mean just as much.
I'm already incredibly grateful for the support I've received so far and for anyone who is able to be a part of what comes next. I'll be sharing updates on admissions decisions as they arrive--thank you for following along, and stay tuned :-)
**Note: any amount raised beyond the immediate moving costs will go toward initial living expenses as I transition into graduate training
