Not long, maybe a few months… that’s what they said… Cancer is not her friend. Maybe she will get lucky and have a little longer, fingers crossed.
About this time last year, Lara began experiencing discomfort in her abdomen. Weeks thereafter, several other symptoms added to the abdomen pain, which prompted us to seek medical attention. That lead to testing, bloodwork, imaging, etc… doctors came to discover a mass and referred us to a specialist. After that specialist found more than just a mass it lead to more specialists.
Weeks turned into months and we finally had a clear picture that Lara had cancer. The cancer had spread quickly to several areas and organs in her body.
After treatments and medications that did not help the situation, it confronted Lara with the fact that her days of waking up to see her family were short.
For those of you that know Lara, she is not a quitter! She will fight for herself and her family. She will do the research and find a way.
After meeting with two of the only surgeons on the east coast that perform surgery to remove this type of cancer Lara made up her mind that she is going to live.
She knows that this is a risky surgery where the results vary from it being a complete success to organ damage to death.
She listened to the doctors clearly explain success rates and the likely result of death, yet there was no panic in her eyes. The fear of not seeing her children again provided enough courage for Lara to say let’s do it!
She has fought so so hard for the past year. Some days were easier than others, heck, some days were just plain hard.
She is eternally grateful to God for allowing her this time to watch our babies grow, to being a fantastic wife, to being my best friend, to loving her nieces & nephews. One year is not the 50 more we want, but you get what you get and you don’t get upset is what we tell our kids.
Having been out of work for an extended period and now having to take leave to move forward with surgery and recovery. We put our pride aside, and on bended knee are asking for help.
We are asking our friends, family and strangers to help donate and support Lara in this tough journey.
If your generosity helps pay off a medical bill or a house payment, that would truly mean so much to us. We will need all the help we can get. Thank you all so much for loving her, and loving our family.
