Hello everyone, I want to share an urgent situation regarding my nine year old son, Landon . In early October, he began showing significant changes in his mood and frequently complained of feeling unwell. Despite his discomfort, he struggled to identify what was wrong. His symptoms varied dramatically from day to day—one moment he seemed fine, the next, he was deeply affected. This uncertainty led to a mental health crisis.
When we visited the doctor, Landon underwent several standard tests for illnesses like flu, Covid, and strep, all of which returned negative results. However, the doctor recognized signs of strep infection and started him on antibiotics. We had a thorough discussion about his symptoms, sudden emotional shifts, and his history with strep, which raised the doctor’s concern about a condition called PANS/PANDAS.
PANS stands for Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome, and PANDAS refers to Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep Infections. In children affected by PANS/PANDAS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the brain during illnesses. This misdirected immune response can significantly diminish a child's quality of life, depending on its severity.
To ensure Landon receives the best possible care, his medical team has recommended a specialist in another state who focuses on PANS/PANDAS. Unfortunately, this specialist does not accept our insurance, which leaves us in a difficult position. We are reaching out for support to help cover the expenses associated with his visit and any necessary tests.
Every medical professional we’ve consulted agrees on the urgency of getting Landon to the right specialist as quickly as possible, given the brain-related nature of this condition.
We sincerely appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you for your support during this challenging time.
