Hello, my name is Lana Walker, a proud daughter of Bunkers Hill, Trelawny, Jamaica.
Hurricane Melissa devastated the small, close-knit community of Bunkers Hill, leaving nearly 90% of homes roofless or destroyed and causing severe damage to Unity Primary School and the historic, Unity Baptist Church.
As my beloved birthplace, and that of my parents, Bunkers Hill holds a special place in my heart.
I was utterly distressed to see the damage, first-hand on November 9.
I'm asking for your help to rebuild homes, restore our school and the community and provide food, water and basic necessities for families in need.
Bunkers Hill is known not only for its resilience but also for its remarkable legacy. This proud community has produced several notable Jamaicans, including Prof. Rex Nettleford, OM, esteemed cultural ambassador and former UWI Vice Chancellor; Audrey Reid, my cousin and Olympic, high jumper and Warren Weir, Olympic sprinter.
The residents of Bunkers Hill embody the very spirit of Jamaica - strong, loving and determined to rise again.
Please donate if you are able, and share this campaign widely with friends, family, and colleagues. Together, we can help Bunkers Hill recover, rebuild, and continue its proud tradition of nurturing future generations of outstanding Jamaicans.
Every donation will bring hope and healing to our community.
