THIS IS A MOTHER OF A VETERANS STORY: My Sons name is Lamont Robertson (aka Seven) he is 46 years old and a Navy Veteran. I will begin his journey at age 18 when he graduated Dunbar High School HS in 1997 and joined the US Navy where he was assigned to the USS Cole. So to try and compact as much information as possible in this story, I will fast forward to 2000 where while my son was on the USS COLE it was bombed by Osama Bin Ladin in the sea of Yeman where my son was injured and loss 17 of his dear friends and shipmates ⚓. Although he was injured on the ship he reenlisted for 4 more years. After his second tour of duty my son was honorably discharged from the Navy and subsequently fell ill and went into renal failure at the tender age between 27 - 28. He received a Kidney from his sister Candice approximately a year later which lasted only 8 years. Lamont has been back on dialysis for approximately another 10 years where he goes to the VA 3 days a week for treatment . During this time my son has faced may trials and tribulations and has been told he is not a good candidate for another kidney due to damages to his bladder and other organs. Lamont has a home that he has struggled to maintain because of constant flooding in his basement which has taken out sub pumps, water heater and furnace due to water damage not to mention walls floors and furnishings. Lamont and his Navy buddies whom he hasn't seen in over 20 years planned and spent thousands of dollars for a reunion trip that he was so excited to attend. Lamont is currently in the hospital due to having 2 anuresyms in his arm that had to be removed by emergency surgery. This is the arm that has the fistula in it that is used for his dialysis. This particular arm has been so damaged that the fitsula had to be removed and placed in his leg at his groin area. 3 days after returning home from this surgery, Lamont experienced complications that almost took his life. The surgical area ruptured and since Lamont is on blood thinners, he started bleeding profusely. He drove himself to the VA hospital after losing over a pint of blood but the VA had no vascular surgeon available so he was to be care flighted to the areas best trauma hospital. The care flight helicopter was too far out so they took him by ambulance. Since then he has had the surgery, several blood transfusions, developed a blood clot near his lungs while being taken off blood thinners, had another surgery to remove the blood clot and now trying to recover.
His mental state has taken a beating because he is so worried about me and his other sister because 1 1/2 years ago we loss my beautiful daughter and his sister Latonya whom we were all extremely close to unexpectedly, and he knows what that loss has done to me and he's afraid of what would happen to me if something would happen to him. SO I am trying to raise this money to make my son whole again. To get his home properly repaired, to pay his medical bills, to reimburse him for the credit cards he maxed out spending thousands on the reunion trip he can't attend, and to just take a lot of the burden this young man has had to endure so early in his life. He is going into week 3 of his hospital journey and although we do not know what the future holds for my son, but as the mother of this incredible, loving, God fearing , generous and kind young man I am praying that you will open your hearts and give whatever you can and to please continue to pray for his complete recovery....Thank you and God bless you all
