LaMya is a bright, joyful third grader who was simply doing what kids should be doing—riding her bike home on a sunny afternoon, full of energy and innocence. But in a split second, her world changed. While riding along, a truck came up from behind and hit LaMya, throwing her off her bike and onto the pavement. The driver never slowed down and did not stop right away. He did not even call 911. Luckily a FedEx driver came right behind and called for help. The entire accident was caught on video. Despite clear video evidence, the police chose not to cite the driver—leaving LaMya’s family stunned, heartbroken, and now facing enormous medical bills for her treatment and recovery. LaMya is currently recovering from her injuries, but the emotional and financial toll on her family is overwhelming. She is strong and resilient, but no child should have to go through this, and no parent should be left to carry the burden alone.
