Support Lamaar's Journey to Recovery - SCI Fund

Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters,

I’m reaching out to ask for help and support in my brother Lamaar’s healing journey after a spinal cord injury (SCI). Lamaar turned 30 in October, and like many of us, he was hopeful that this year would be different—a fresh start with new opportunities, experiences, and growth. He’s an ambitious man, full of dreams and ideas, and was eager to pursue new ventures, including going back to school and supporting our family as I finish my own education. He’s smart, driven, and determined. But none of us could have expected how starkly different life would look in the new year.

On January 5th, Lamaar was involved in a car accident that left him with devastating injuries, including several shattered vertebrae and a C4 spinal cord injury. He is now paralyzed from the chest down with limited use of his arms and hands. We are incredibly fortunate to say that Lamaar has come a long way since that night when we found him on life support in the ICU, miles away in another state. Today, he is working hard at the Sheperd Center in Atlanta, Georgia to get his life back on track by regaining his strength and self-autonomy. We are so grateful to the doctors, nurses, and therapists who are caring for him and helping him progress. However, as he nears his discharge date from inpatient care, we’re faced with a mountain of new challenges. One of the most pressing being to acquire mobility aids and equipment such as an accessible van for transporting him to and from his medical/ therapy appointments.

One of the first things Lamaar was able to say to us in the ICU was, "I’m gonna beat this." His determination is unwavering, and we want to support him in every way possible as he fights this battle. We remain hopeful because Lamaar is young and strong. With that being said, this is a long journey with many unknowns. Our prayer is that we can ease Lamaar’s burdens, allowing him to focus on healing without the weight of external stressors. Any support—whether through prayers, local resources, or financial contributions—will mean the world to us and help Lamaar on his path to recovery.
