My name is LaKesha and have 6 year old twins that I have primary custody of following my divorce in 2023. I have just been served papers from my ex-husband's lawyer. They state that he is requesting primary custody of the twins and for me to pay him child support.
I initially reached out to him in January of 2026 to request that he and I have a conversation regarding the unsafe conditions that the twins shared that had be put in while with him during his visitation.
Sadly, he refused to have the conversation with me. Out of fear of something bad happening and me not being notified, I did not let him go with their dad until he and I had a conversation.
Again, he refused to clarify any of the incidents that the children shared with me inciting his family members to call me stating that I should not worry about the things that occur when they are with their dad. A family member also went on to state that the twins were lying.
I kept them from him for the last 3 months out of fear. Yes, I was held in contempt of court but I felt I had no other choice as a mother but to protect my twins.
When they are with him, he will not let me talk to them nor will he answer his phone.
Inspite all the above mentioned, he has been non-compliant with his visitation rights ; however, I never took him to court.
I just wanted him to be in their life in some capacity.
Now, he has decided to take me to court because of the above mentioned information.
Ya'll, I am terrified and scared. I have only tried to protect my children. They are my world and all that I have. They give me purpose.
I have less than 2 weeks to retain a child custoy lawyer to fight on my behalf. Baseline fees to get the motion filed are $1,500.
Any help would be appreciated.
