We are a group of dedicated student musicians from Lake Highlands High School who have all earned the opportunity to perform with the Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps marching band this summer. Each of us comes from a unique background, but we share the same passion for music, growth, and pushing ourselves to achieve something greater. This experience is more than just performing—it’s about discipline, leadership, and becoming the best version of ourselves. My name is Cannon Ramsey. I have been in band for five years now. Band has been a great opportunity for me to make new friends, gain leadership skills, and experience new opportunities such as this one. It has become a very important and memorable part of my life. I was invited to audition by my peers, and the camp solidified my desire to join the group. The people were great, and I could see that being a part of this group will lead to great improvement. The Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps is a very important and meaningful opportunity to me, as it will help me grow my percussion and leadership skills and support my goal of pursuing music in college. From that very first day, band became more than just a class—it became my family. I’ve faced some tough moments, and band was always there to lift me up, encourage me, and help me believe in myself. Without it, I might still feel isolated or still be searching for a place to belong.

I first discovered Drum Corps International back in eighth grade, and I was completely captivated. Watching these performers work in perfect unity, striving not just for awards but for lifelong friendships and joy, lit something inside me. When my friend Carter told me about the opening, he encouraged me to go for it. He believed in me, and that gave me the push I needed. I realized it wasn’t just a dream—it was my calling.
