Lajla has always been the one to care for others, but now she needs our help. In February, she learned that her primary tumor had returned during a routine colonoscopy. She was scheduled for a procedure in March, but complications prevented it from being completed. Despite enduring four small incisions, the doctors couldn’t reach her colon due to her enlarged uterus. This meant her surgery had to be rescheduled and coordinated with both gynecology and colorectal specialists.

On April 10, Lajla bravely underwent two major abdominal surgeries. She is still in the hospital, hoping to be discharged soon so she can recover at our parents’ house. The road to recovery hasn’t been easy—she missed work for the first incomplete procedure and will be out for at least six weeks after this latest surgery. Short-term disability doesn’t begin until after two weeks and only covers 60 percent of her income. Meanwhile, rent, bills, and daily expenses continue to pile up. To make things even more challenging, Lajla is moving on May 1 and will have extra moving costs because she can’t lift anything heavy.
