Lainey Joy was born Friday, June 7th at 12:13 p.m. at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Immediately upon birth, she was taken to the NICU at Riverside for close evaluation. From there, she was diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS). PRS is a non-genetic condition that occurs in early development of the womb and causes an under-developed jaw, cleft palate, and larger tongue. All three of these things together have caused Lainey to not be able to breathe as well or bottle-feed from a regular bottle. Lainey was given a Nasogastric (NG) feeding tube a few hours after she was born. She was then transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital by a mobile ICU Sunday, June 9th, as the doctors at Riverside knew she would need expert care for this condition. There, they confirmed her PRS condition with multiple tests and four different surgical teams closely evaluating her. Katie and I found out on June 11th that in order for Lainey to come home, she needs to meet a set of goals and it is uncertain how long these goals will take for her to achieve.
We know that there are certain seasons of life. Seasons of giving, and seasons of receiving. So far, we have luckily only had seasons of giving until now. Katie and I are humbly asking for financial help with the present and future expenses with Lainey’s condition and hospital stays. Any money donated to this GoFundMe will be used for medical expenses, bills, gas to and from Columbus, extra unplanned time off of work, and food. We most importantly ask for prayers during this difficult time. The dream of getting to take our newborn baby home to her new house a few days after she was born is sadly taken away from us.
We appreciate every one of you so much.
