Support Laid-Off Timberland Regional Library Workers

Donation protected
This year, more than 25 library workers at Timberland Regional Library lost their jobs as a result of a sudden financial crisis within the library district. While some workers accepted voluntary layoff options, many felt compelled to do so because of the uncertainty surrounding the district's future and the lack of confidence in leadership. Five workers received involuntary layoff notices.

These layoffs have created immediate financial hardship for dedicated library workers and their families. As they search for new employment, they are facing the challenge of paying for essential expenses such as rent, health insurance, utilities, groceries, transportation, and other basic needs.

When times are difficult, we rely on solidarity and community support. Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to help Timberland Regional Library workers who have been laid off through no fault of their own. Every contribution will help provide stability during a period of unexpected transition and uncertainty.

Funds raised will be distributed equally among laid-off workers who have indicated financial need. These funds will help cover essential living expenses, including housing, healthcare, transportation, food, utilities, and other necessities while workers seek new employment and adjust to the loss of income.

**About the organizer**

I served as local union president from 2022 to 2026 and worked at Timberland Regional Library from 2001 to 2026. I accepted a voluntary layoff in April 2026. Fortunately, I do not currently need financial assistance, but many of my former coworkers and union siblings do.

Like me, these workers dedicated years of service to their communities and did not anticipate the budget crisis that unfolded this year. In January 2026, Timberland Regional Library leadership announced a sudden multimillion-dollar budget shortfall and plans to lay off more than 60 library workers. Through sustained organizing by union members and community supporters, top library administrators have since left, and more than 38 involuntary layoff notices have been rescinded. However, many workers have already lost their positions and continue to face significant financial uncertainty.

Library workers have spent their careers helping community members access information, resources, technology, education, and opportunity. They have connected people with books, internet access, job-search assistance, lifelong learning, and vital community services. Now they need our help.

Your donation can provide immediate relief while these workers rebuild, seek new opportunities, and support themselves and their families during this difficult transition. Thank you for standing with library workers and supporting the people who have dedicated their careers to serving our communities.
