Support Lacy's Dream: Healing for Heroes

Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Lacy. For nearly two decades, I have served as a Registered Nurse in the hospital and outpatient setting, helping patients heal both physically and emotionally.

In 2018, I had the life-changing experience of serving my community during the tragic (and fatal) Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslides. That event opened my eyes to a critical gap: while healthcare providers are on the frontlines of hospital emergencies from the very first moment—and for weeks afterward—they are often overlooked when it comes to emotional and mental health support. Unlike traditional "First Responders," hospital-based healthcare workers are rarely recognized for the trauma they endure or the lasting impact it leaves, and they are often denied time off for healing.

Ever since 2018, I have dreamt of doing more than providing direct patient care, one patient at a time. More than just continuing within the corporate healthcare system — I have dreamt of building something that honors and supports the unseen heroes: the nurses, techs, therapists, and countless others who show up day after day, silently carrying the weight of what they witness.

I was reminded of my dream in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic flooded our hospitals and demanded heroism from all healthcare employees — not just traditional First Responders. Many hospital corporations denied any form of employee assistance to emotionally and mentally support the courageous workers who showed up each day, rather than run away. It was yet another example of hospital employees not receiving the recognition or post-trauma support they needed and deserved.

Last year, I was diagnosed with melanoma, and it reminded me that there is no better time than now to make your dreams come true. Now, during my third major career reflection, I’m taking the leap to bring that dream to life!

In order to transition out of traditional nursing while still supporting myself, I’m launching a small business focused on handcrafted luxury candles and boutique crafts. A portion of the proceeds from my small business will be dedicated to starting a nonprofit foundation that supports healthcare workers living with PTSD. However, the start-up costs for launching a small business are significant — and currently beyond my financial reach.

I refuse to let this dream fade away — the dream of supporting and helping the caretakers who take care of all of us. That’s why I’m humbly asking for your support through this GoFundMe campaign. Your contribution isn’t just helping one nurse start a small business — it’s helping build a future where healthcare providers finally receive the recognition, healing, and support they deserve.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being a part of this journey.

Gratefully,
Lacy Patton, RN
