Support Lacrisha Hughes' Family After Tragic Accident

Donation protected
My name is Lacrisha Hughes, and on March 15th, 2025, my husband was in a car accident.

On Saturday morning, I received an emergency alert stating my husband had been in a car accident and was not responding to the emergency alert system. After following his GPS location, I waited at the ER for six full hours before they finally allowed us back to see him. (side note: set up your phones medical ID and emergency contacts; I would have never known had his phone not alerted me to the crash!) His condition after 6 hours of sedation and emergency care was a sight that will traumatize me for the rest of my life.

After 4.5 days at the hospital, he was finally cleared to go home Wednesday afternoon. He suffered two broken legs, one being fractured in over 10 places, and it will never fully recover. Because of this, he still requires an additional surgery, as he currently has rods sticking out of his leg. On top of both of his legs being broken, he suffered a broken nose, internal bruising on his shoulder, thumb, and hip, a collapsed lung that required a chest tube, and multiple gash wounds throughout his body. He will require extensive care, more surgery, a continuous nerve block, and at home therapy to heal from all his injuries. His saving grace was his seatbelt being on, something that I always nag him for, because he rarely puts it on. I am SOOOO thankful that he decided to put it on that day of all days.

Unfortunately because of his accident, I am now the sole provider for our household and our two children. On top of that, my mother-in-law is no longer working to provide him 24/7 care while I continue to work and keep our house afloat. We are both struggling financially, especially affording all the copays and the mountain long list of medications we are picking up from pharmacies. I know at the moment, we will have to pay the full deductible of his insurance, which is $4,500, as well as our mortgage, utilities, therapy for our kids, and everything else that is required on the day-to-day. Unfortunately because he has not worked at his job for very long, we are having difficulty receiving short-term disability, and may never receive it. He has already been denied for FMLA and we now have to try and file through the ADA. I may be the sole provider for the next 12 weeks, and potentially even longer.

Please, even if you cannot donate, share to friends and family. I absolutely hate asking for money and have never done this for myself before, but unfortunately this is a financial disaster I never could have planned for. Thank you so much for reading, and please, hold your loved ones close, because you never know when they could lose their life or come close to it.
