The state of Minnesota and the MPCA received settlement funds from the Volkswagen violations of the Clean Air Act. Part of those funds were directed to build out EV charging infrastructure in southeast Minnesota along the highway 14/61 corridor. La Crescent is the recipient of these grant funds from the MPCA for constructing additional EV chargers in La Crescent. The project is proposed to install a 50kW DCFC fast charger (Level 3) and a Level 2 charger. Each charger will have two ports for a total of 4 plugs to charge an EV. The grant funds combined with the direct pay tax credit of 30% cover most of the project cost. The local cost is $12,836. The project is very time sensitive as the MPCA grant funds expire on December 31st, 2025. Funds will be collected by EcoThriveLLC and donated to the city.
