Thank you for considering donating to this growing staple in our community. Here is more information on our project.

Overview:
La Ciendita serves as a vibrant Latinx and Indigenous boutique and community space, strategically located at the corner of Arcata Plaza. As a Latino-owned enterprise, La Ciendita is uniquely structured into two distinct sections: an intimate indoor boutique and a welcoming outdoor courtyard. Our mission is to cultivate and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our community while providing local artists, makers, and farmers with a supportive platform.

Indoor Boutique:
Our indoor space showcases the creative works of local artists, prioritizing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) talent. We operate on a low consignment rate of 25%, significantly lower than the customary 30-40% charged by local markets, ensuring that our artists can thrive. We also collaborate with local BIPOC farmers seasonally, purchasing and consigning their products to create accessible markets free from systemic barriers. For instance, during October, we focus on supporting local Mexican farmers, especially those growing marigolds for Día de los Muertos, honoring cultural traditions while providing them with a robust market presence.

Outdoor Courtyard:
Our outdoor courtyard functions as a dynamic space for pop-ups, events, markets, cultural gatherings, and casual meet-ups. Since our inception, we have hosted various community-oriented activities, including the Plaza Posada in collaboration with local organizations, pop-up food stalls featuring traditional cuisine, and art workshops. We do not charge for the use of this space, allowing vendors to sell their goods without financial risk, thus fostering equitable marketing opportunities.

Cultural Cultivation:
At La Ciendita, our fundamental purpose is to cultivate culture and support local artists, culture keepers, leaders, and small businesses. Our carefully curated space is designed to evoke the beauty of our heritage, creating an environment that instills pride in our identities. We aim to connect diverse sectors of the community—artists, agriculturalists, business owners, healthcare practitioners, community leaders, chefs, and others—facilitating collaboration and networking.

Community Impact:
La Ciendita has become an orienting location for those seeking to engage with various community sectors, thereby enhancing representation and respect for Latinx and Indigenous cultures. By providing a platform for diverse vendors and makers, we influence local culture towards a more inclusive and celebratory state. Our commitment to beauty as a tool for empowerment and pride underscores our dedication to fostering a thriving, interconnected community that honors its cultural roots.

In summary, La Ciendita is not just a boutique; it is a community hub that nurtures creativity, supports local economies, and cultivates cultural pride. Through our initiatives, we strive to make a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Arcata and beyond.
