Hello, my name is Kyrillos (21), and I moved from Texas to Massachusetts to pursue higher theological education and follow what I truly believe is my calling. Leaving my family and home behind wasn’t easy, but I felt deeply convicted to dedicate my life to study, service, and the Church.

Alongside my studies, I teach Coptic chant and serve in Sunday School at a parish about 25 minutes away. This service has been one of the greatest blessings of my time here—helping children and young adults grow in faith, language, and tradition. However, the parish is unable to offer any financial compensation, and without a car, I’ve been relying on Uber rides every weekend for the past year and a half (almost amounting to $100 weekly to go Saturday nights and Sunday mornings and back to campus).

While I do work through my school’s work-study program, I am capped at 15 hours a week and earn minimum wage. Most of what I make goes toward tuition, food, and basic expenses—leaving very little to cover the cost of transportation. Over time, the weekly rides have become extremely expensive and unsustainable. I’ve maxed out two credit cards just to get to church each week, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up.

Despite the challenges, I’ve continued to serve because it means so much to me and to the community I’ve come to love. But at this point, the situation has become financially, physically, and emotionally exhausting, and I am humbly asking for help.
