Support Kyrie’s Heart Surgery & Family Care

Update! Kyrie’s surgery has been pushed back by 2 days! Please keep all the prayers coming, as the day gets closer and Momma gets more and more nervous! He is absolutely the sweetest most joyful little soul My name is Rachel, and I’m helping raise funds to support my daughter A’Kya and her five children. This is something she wanted to explain to you.

Hello! My name is A'kya Daniels, and I'm a proud mom to five beautiful children ~ my 4 older kids ages 5 (twins), 2 & 1 and my sweet 4-month-old baby boy Kyrie. From the first moment I brought kyrie home our hearts were overflowing with love. When he was born, we discovered he has down syndrome. After a thorough evaluation, his pediatric cardiologist explained that Kyrie also has a complete atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD), a serious heart condition that affects about 40-50 percent of infants with Down Syndrome.

An AVSD means that two holes in the center of the heart(one between the upper chambers, another between the lower chambers) are preventing his heart from pumping normally. Although medications can help stabilize him for a while, the only long-term solution is open-heart surgery to repair those two holes. In just a few short weeks, Kyrie is scheduled for an eight-hour operation to close his defects, restore proper blood flow, and give him the best chance for a healthy, happy life.

As a working mom, I've always juggled full-time shifts (even weekends) while balancing my children's school drop-offs, doctors appointments, and family dinner time. But right now, my entire focus must be on kyrie- both for the surgery itself and the weeks of recovery that follow. After surgery, he'll spend at least two weeks in the cardiac ICU. Even when he finally comes home, he'll need around-the-clock- care: managing pin, monitoring his feeding and weight gain, carrying oxygen saturation monitors, and attending frequent follow-up appointments. Babies who have AVSD repair often tire easily, need extra nutritional support to grow, and require gentle physical therapy to strengthen their little bodies.

Because of Kyrie surgery, I will need to take a full 6–8 weeks off work to be his sole caregiver. Between rent, utilities, car payments, and much more, our household expenses will not pause just because my paycheck does. As a primary working parent, I’ve always gone above and beyond for my children—doing everything i possibly can.

But this surgery is different. Physically and emotionally, it’s all‑consuming. We need our community now more than ever.
I would never ask unless it was absolutely necessary. We are a proud, hardworking family that believes in giving back, volunteering whenever our schedules allow, and lending a hand when friends struggle. Now we are humbled to ask the same compassion from others.

What your support means:
When you donate- even $5, $10, or $25 - you’re not just giving money; you’re giving me peace of mind. You’re allowing me to sit by Kyrie’s bassinet in the ICU without wondering if our bills will be paid, You’re sending a message to a scared little 4‑month‑old that he’s not alone; that even though he was born with extra challenges, the world believes in him.

With Love,
A'kya Daniels
