On September 12th, my 28-year-old daughter, Kyrie St. John, survived a horrific car accident.

Kyrie was a passenger in a car that was traveling at a very high speed when it hit a tree head-on. She was conscious and trapped in the vehicle. A man just happened to be driving by at the exact time my daughter was screaming for help. It was so dark he didn’t even see the car at first and just heard her screaming. His swift action (even stopping another car and getting help from two other people) most definitely saved her life. Less than a minute after getting her out the car was full engulfed in flames.

Kyrie was the sole survivor of the crash.

She suffered a severe tibia and fibula fracture in her right leg that required major surgery, a fractured left ankle, several fractured vertebra and a broken pinky. She is facing a long recovery, and months of rehabilitation. Right now, we don’t know exactly what the road ahead will look like.

But the physical injuries are only part of what Kyrie is facing.

She survived an accident that took the lives of the people who were with her, including her lifelong best friend. She is going to have to heal from the physical injuries while also trying to process something no 28-year-old should ever have to live through. We know the emotional trauma of surviving this will be something she carries for a long time, and we want to make sure she has the support she needs to heal emotionally as well as physically.

She will be out of work and we have no idea how long that will be right now. Between surgery, hospital care, rehabilitation, transportation, medical equipment, bills and the everyday things Kyrie will need while she cannot walk, the expenses are going to add up quickly.

We know she is going to need help, and asking is not something that comes easily to this family. But she needs it.

If you are able to donate, we will be incredibly grateful. If you aren’t able to donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful. And if all you can do is keep Kyrie in your thoughts, please do that too.

We are taking this one day at a time. Right now, we are incredibly grateful for the people who pulled her out and her father and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that her rescue was divinely orchestrated. We don’t know why, and there are a lot of complicated feelings around it, but we know God is real. We feel immeasurable gratitude that she is still with us.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, checked on her, prayed for her, or offered support to our family. We are going to need a lot of it in the days ahead.
