Help Tim, Kylie, and Baby Lucas Kaito Chen!

Donation protected
We are Alice Matagora and Jenny Ngo, Tim’s older sisters. We are starting this fundraiser on Tim, Kylie, and Baby Lucas’ behalf due to some unforeseen expenses that have risen because of a sudden hospitalization during Kylie’s pregnancy.

If you don’t know Tim and Kylie, Tim and Kylie have been working with the Navigators in full-time Christian work in Japan for the past five years and in Southern California for several years before that, helping men and women know Jesus, learn to have a relationship with him, and help others do the same. Over the past several months, Tim and Kylie have sensed God calling them to move back to the States.

At 3AM on March 10th, two days before Tim and Kylie were to move back permanently to the United States, Kylie woke up with severe abdominal pain that quickly worsened. She was transferred from a local clinic to the hospital via ambulance where it was determined that Kylie was going through preterm labor. Kylie is 23.5 weeks pregnant.

After several hours, the doctors were able to slow down the contractions with medication. However, Kylie has already started dilating and will most likely need to remain in Japan for the remainder of the pregnancy. You can read a more detailed update from Timmy here.

Thankfully Kylie and baby Lucas have both stabilized and will continue to be monitored closely. However, there are many unexpected expenses that have arisen because of these circumstances.
  • A rental car. In preparation for their upcoming move, Tim and Kylie have sold and donated most of their belongings, including their car. Tim will need to rent one for the remainder of their time in Japan.
  • Appliances and furniture. As they have also sold and donated their appliances and furniture, Tim will need to purchase, rent, or borrow these for his short term stay.
  • Double rent. Thankfully Timmy was able to sign a short term lease with their previous residence so he can stay at their current house. However, they will need to pay rent for this house as well as the apartment they had secured in Irvine, CA (a “God-provision” story of its own!). Because they do not know how long they will stay in Japan, they are unsure of how long they will be paying double rent for (up to six months).
  • Medical costs. For Kylie’s emergency care, for the rest of Kylie’s hospital stay, as well as any costs that may arise if Lucas arrives early.
  • Travel costs from changing their itinerary.
  • Baby items. It is very likely Kylie will deliver baby Lucas in Japan. The Chen’s will need to purchase some basics of what Lucas will need in his first few months of life.

Thank you all for your support. Tim and Kylie are very grateful for everyone’s prayers, kind words, and any gifts that you may give. We know Tim and Kylie (and even Baby Lucas already!) are so loved by many. We will continue to post medical updates throughout this journey.

If you would like to donate directly to Tim and Kylie through Venmo (preferred to avoid the GoFundMe overhead charge), you may send it to @timchen23 on Venmo.
