Hi, I’m Kylie. I’m 18 years old and just graduated from STMA.

My story started on Sunday, July 28th at 6:30. My Grandma and I were driving back from Maple Grove where we were shopping for college dorm-room stuff. All of a sudden there was a very abrupt downpour, and my car instantly started hydroplaning. We started drifting into different lanes, we spun around multiple times - almost hitting oncoming traffic. All of a sudden, I saw a semi approaching and I hit the brakes. That is when we hit a guard rail and flipped. In a situation so scary, the thing I remember most was the feeling of relief when my grandma had grabbed my hand and never let go until we were released from the car. I was so thankful for the paramedics, police officers, and most importantly the bystanders. There were people who instantly pulled over and helped keep my grandma and I awake and talking during the whole situation. They even held our other hands that were covered in glass. I was awake the entire time. I had surgery to fix the deep lacerations in my cheek and all the way up to the middle of my head. I had 40 stitches and 20 staples. I also fractured my nose, had really bad whiplash, and scraped up my arm pretty bad. My grandma ended up having a fractured hip, fractures in her neck, and bruised ribs.

Luckily, we will both make a full recovery.
