Support Kylee through medical crisis

Hello! I’m a mom trying to raise funds to help support my 27 yr old daughter, Kylee, through a medical crisis.

Anyone who knows Kylee will tell you she’s a sweetheart with a great sense of humor and a poet’s vision of the world. She’s a documentary film editor, focusing on environmental issues, social justice, and marginalized voices. See her past work highlighted on her website.

As a freelancer working out of her apartment in the Bay Area of northern CA, she is paid periodically by project, so she works in coffee shops and bookstores to help pay bills.

Kylee is currently experiencing a full circle health crisis moment. Back in August 1996, she was born a preemie at 32 weeks, and she immediately had stomach surgery to repair a birth defect (gastroschisis). She had been fine since.

Almost 30 years later, she suddenly felt sick on August 8th, thinking she had a stomach bug. She kept calling out of work at the bookstore, not getting better, and finally ended up hospitalized in California with a bowel obstruction and pending difficult abdominal surgery all due to scar tissue from her prior surgery at birth. It was such a full circle moment that she celebrated her 27th birthday in the hospital, with her family on the other side of the country in Massachusetts on Facetime.

She doesn’t receive any paid sick time or assistance as a freelancer and is very worried since she cannot finish editing projects right now to pay her upcoming rent, bills, and medical needs for the next few months, and she has no family in CA.

It breaks my heart that I cannot help her financially as a teacher/writer supporting my family on one income and living on the other side of the country in Massachusetts.

We would appreciate any support you can give. We would not ask if it wasn’t an emergency. Please help Kylee get back on her feet so she can do what she does best— capture and shine light on others who are making a difference in the world.
