To know an educator is to know someone whose heart is dedicated to touching and impacting the lives of our youth. Educators don’t enter the field for the money but to make a difference. Kyle White’s handprint has been on the Maize Community for almost 30 years as a parent, teacher, coach, Principal, and a familiar voice as the Voice of the Maize Eagles at home football and basketball games.
To know Kyle is to know someone who loves and cares so deeply for those around him. The personal impact he has had on so many lives speaks volumes about the father, husband, family member, educator, and friend he is! His deep faith and love for Christ reflect in everything he does.
A year ago, Kyle was diagnosed with a faulty heart valve (bicuspid, meaning it has only two leaflets instead of three) and an ascending aortic aneurysm. This causes significant blood to flow back into his heart, making it work harder and contributing to the aneurysm. The issues have been compounded by elevated blood pressure. The doctor said surgery was imminent but might not be necessary for several years—possibly even as many as 10 years.
After a recent check-up with his cardiologist last week, it was determined that a heart catheterization (Heart Cath) needed to be done soon. On May 1st, after undergoing the Heart Cath, Kyle was immediately admitted to the hospital. The procedure confirmed the findings from a year ago but also revealed that his heart had significantly enlarged due to high blood pressure, causing dilation and stress. Fortunately, there are no blockages in his arteries, which is a relief and will make the surgery easier.
Kyle is scheduled for open-heart surgery on Monday at 11:00 AM. The surgery will replace the faulty valve with a mechanical one that should last him a lifetime. The cardiologist emphasized the seriousness of Kyle’s heart condition, but the surgeon reassured the family that the surgical risks are minimal. After surgery, Kyle will stay in the hospital for an additional 5-6 days.
While the family is understandably overwhelmed, the hospital is the best place for Kyle right now, as they can monitor him closely and provide emergency care if needed. The emotional burden is heavy, but the family is focusing on the positives, including the clear arteries and the surgeon’s confidence in Kyle’s ability to recover well.
We are Brett and Michele Womack, close friends of the White Family. So many people have asked the White family how they can help. Unfortunately, due to the rising cost of insurance premiums, Kyle and Jennifer have had to choose a high-deductible healthcare plan for several years. Between the extended medical stay before surgery, the surgery itself, possible rehab, and ongoing medication, the family is facing significant medical expenses. As this has hit them unexpectedly, and beyond prayer and well wishes, this is where those who want to help can make a difference.
Funds raised will go directly toward Kyle’s medical expenses.
