Support Kyle Fraser's Recovery after Two Strokes

My name is Nadia Wheaton and I'm setting up this fundraiser on behalf of Kyle Fraser and his partner Laryssa.

Many of you may know Kyle as an incredible member of the sound design community–an industry titan, mentor, colleague, and above all a genuinely kind and generous person. Kyle and Laryssa are two beautiful people I’m lucky to call friends.

Many people have generously asked how they could help them in this difficult time, and as a means to inform folks what happened to Kyle, let’s start at the beginning.

On March 9, Kyle underwent a planned procedure to install a stent in his brain as a preventative measure against one of his aneurysms. The procedure went smoothly, and on March 10 Kyle was released to recover at home.

Within 48 hours of the operation, everything changed.

On March 11 at 10am, Kyle was beginning to experience an ischemic stroke while at home. An ambulance was called and he was admitted to the ER.

Later that day, March 11 at 3pm, Kyle’s condition worsened. The stroke progressed into an intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke.

As a result of these two strokes, Kyle has lost movement on the right side of his body (a complete paralysis of his right hand, leg, and right side of his face). The extent of possible recovery from this is unknown at this time, and will require intensive in-patient therapy.

Since then Kyle’s condition has stabilized, and he remains under close medical supervision at the hospital. Though there are hopeful signs, recovery from a brain injury of this severity will be a long journey - stroke recovery is measured in months if not years, and requires sustained therapy, support, and medical costs. Kyle’s care expenses are already beginning to accumulate.

Kyle’s amazing partner, Laryssa, and his parents are by his side to help. We would like to reach out to the community for support in any way possible.

Funds will be used to cover the following:
  • Medical costs including his ICU care, medications, rehabilitation, and ongoing treatment
  • Living expenses while Kyle awaits disability approval
  • Relocation costs to move to an accessible living arrangement
  • Transportation to and from medical appointments
  • Support for Laryssa as she transitions into a temporary caregiving role

Kyle has helped shape the sound of so many games we know and love, while also creating industry-defining sound libraries that are widely used across the industry. He has spent his career pushing the boundaries of game audio and is truly one of the most hardworking and talented people I know.

Laryssa is also an incredible video game composer and has been one of my closest friends for over a decade. Right now, she has had to pause her freelance work in order to focus on caring for Kyle and supporting him through his recovery.

Any support–whether through a donation or simply sharing this page–means the world to Kyle, Laryssa, and everyone who cares about them.

Please send positive vibes for Kyle and Laryssa as they navigate this recovery journey. We will provide major updates here as things progress.

Thank you for your time!
