Hello, my name is Kyla Bowman,
and thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.
I graduated from high school in 2024 and was originally set to attend St. John’s University that fall. Unfortunately, I had to make the difficult decision to delay my enrollment in order to stay home and care for my mother, who was battling Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer. She was my biggest supporter, and being there for her during such a tough time meant everything to me.
In early February of this year, St. John’s gave me a second chance to attend. They went above and beyond. Providing scholarships, grants, and doing everything they could to help me get to campus. I was so grateful and excited to finally take this next step toward my future.
But on July 7th, my world changed again. My mother passed away after her courageous fight with cancer. I have now lost not only my mom but also my number one supporter during this life changing transition.
Although St. John’s has significantly reduced the out-of-pocket cost through financial aid, as an independent student, it is still financially impossible for me to cover the remaining expenses on my own. Many have reached out to ask what they could do and ways they could help me in this time of need; I am currently trying to raise $10,000 by the end of July through mid August to avoid being withdrawn before the semester begins.
I am so incredibly close to making my dreams a reality. My goal is to become a Nurse; a career path inspired by my mother’s strength, compassion, and the amazing care she received during her illness. I know she would be so proud to see how far I’ve come and where I’m headed.
If you’re able to contribute, anything helps. No amount is too small. Your support means more to me than words can express. And if you have any questions feel free to reach out.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
With love and hope,
Kyla Bowman
