2023 came with the most incredible highs as well as the most overwhelming lows for our family.
Our dream of becoming parents was finally coming true when we found out we were expecting a baby boy on the day of love - Valentine’s Day! Our lives instantly changed as we planned for a move to the DC area to be closer to family and start this exciting new chapter together. We secured the most gorgeous apartment, started decorating our baby boy’s nursery, and quickly made this new space feel like home.
The Diagnosis
We made so many changes in our life to prepare for our little baby, which also came with wanting to be as healthy as possible for our growing family. So shortly after Miko was born, Kuda finally scheduled his routine doctor’s appointment, which unfortunately resulted in the most unexpected diagnosis: at 28 years old Kuda was in end stage kidney failure.
What should have been the most exciting time as a new family of 3 (6 including the fur babies), ended up being the most challenging, trying time of our lives. From navigating doctor’s visits to adjusting to a new diet all while balancing little to no sleep with a newborn, to say we were overwhelmed is the greatest understatement.
Kuda ended up in the hospital on Christmas day due to lethal levels of potassium in his blood and that’s when we realized just how serious this was and is. So he spent Christmas through New Year in the hospital where countless labs and tests and a biopsy took place to just get some understanding as to what could have caused this. And although some questions still need to be answered - we do know one thing for sure is he needs a kidney transplant as soon as possible.
Your Support
With that being said, the combination of weekly doctors appointments while navigating parenthood, has resulted in both of us taking a few steps back in our careers. And unfortunately it has come to the point where we need to ask for some support, which will be used for the following:
- Weekly Doctors Appointments/Meeting with Specialists
- Ongoing Lab Work
- Hospital Bills
- Medication
- Transplant Expenses
- Potential Donor Expenses
Kuda is the love of my life, the father of my perfect baby boy, my high school sweetheart and my best friend in the whole world. At this point, I have known Kuda for almost half of my life and I’m so incredibly grateful for the life we’ve created together for the past 12 years. This transplant will allow him to go back to living a (somewhat) normal, looooong life by my side. I need him here. His baby needs him here, which is why any little bit of support goes such a long way.
Other Ways to Help:
In addition to donating to this GoFundMe, please share Kuda’s story. You have no idea how much this means to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping our family.
