Hi everyone,
My name is Kubra Nur. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Counseling + LPC program at the George Washington University (GWU). I want to thank you for clicking on this page and considering supporting it.
It was a week after Turkey survived a coup attempt when I saw that my university was at the very bottom of the list of 15 universities that were permanently closed. I was a senior student with a Merit scholarship. However, the magnitude of the declared state of emergency defied anyone’s comprehension and brought me to the USA. After going through water and fire, I got admitted to the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). By the end of next year, I was designated on the Dean’s list and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Last year, I was accepted to continue my master’s degree at the highly regarded university in the nation’s capital, the George Washington University (GWU).
Regardless of how delightful I am to be a graduate student at this university and successfully maintained a GPA of 3.95/4.00, at the end of the day I need to pay the remaining installments. The crackdown in Turkey adversely affected my family. Inevitable financial constraints tie my hands at this point. As of now, I have been able to get Merit and Need Scholarships for around ~30,000 dollars, which helped me complete the first year of my program. The remaining 30,000 dollars that I am trying to raise outside of my scholarship will cover my final year’s tuition fee. So, I can pursue a career dedicated to the goal of discovering and unraveling different aspects of the role of resilience and coping mechanisms on psychosocial adjustment of children and families at the times of adversities.
With all being said, again, I thank you in advance for taking the time out of your day to read this page. I completely understand if you are unable to give a hand to this, as we are all in various financial situations, having to put a plethora of things on track, and finding our way in life.

P.S. You may have noticed that there are two sides of wings on the emblems of my previous universities. Now that I realize I can fly with my wings given by two amazing universities, I just need the elevating power of the GWU to fly higher and faster

Türkiye'nin darbe girişiminden kurtulduktan bir hafta sonra üniversitemin açılmamak uzere kapatılan 15 üniversiteden birisinin oldugunu gördüm. Ustun Basari burslu son sınıf öğrencisiydim. Ancak, ilan edilen olağanüstü hal durumunun büyüklüğü beni ABD'ya getirdi. Ardı sıra bitmeyen badirelerin ardindan District of Columbia Üniversitesine (UDC) kabul edildim. Bir yilin sonunda, Dekan Seref listesine seçildim ve Magna Cum Laude'dan mezun oldum. Geçen yıl ise, ülkenin başkentinde saygın bir üniversite olan George Washington Universitesinde yüksek lisans programına kabul aldim.
Bu üniversitede yüksek lisans öğrencisi olmak ve 3.95 / 4.00 not ortalaması elde etmek ne kadar tarif edilemez bir gurur olsada, günün sonunda geriye ödemem gereken taksitler beni bekliyor. Türkiye'deki baskı ailemi olumsuz etkiledi. Kaçınılmaz mali kısıtlamalar bu noktada ellerimi bağliyor maalesef. An itibariyle, yaklaşık 30.000 dolar degerindeki Ihtiyac ve Ustun Basari bursları programımın ilk yılını tamamlamama yardımcı oldu. Geriye kalan 30.000 dolar, son yılimin öğrenim ücretimi karşılayacak. Mezun olabilirsem, ozellikle sıkıntıların yaşandığı zamanlarda çocukların ve ailelerin psikososyal uyumu üzerindeki dayanıklılık ve başa çıkma mekanizmalarının farklı yönlerini keşfetme ve çözme amacına kendimi adamak istiyorum.
