Many want to help our beautiful friend Krystal Longworth who has been diagnosed with malignant epithelial mesothelioma. Krystal is only 43 and is a much loved and adored part of all our lives.
Krystal is a devoted single mum to four amazing children, aged 6 to 17. A few weeks ago, her world changed forever when she was diagnosed with malignant epithelial mesothelioma — an aggressive, incurable cancer that is extremely rare for someone her age.
This is every parent’s worst fear — and it is now her reality.
On Friday, 6 March, Krystal began immunotherapy, with intensive treatment every three weeks. The treatment is harsh, exhausting, and lifechanging — but it gives her the best chance of slowing the cancer and holding onto more precious time with her children.
All four of her children have special needs and rely deeply on Krystal’s presence, stability, and comfort. They need their mum — now more than ever.
A Life Devoted to Helping Others
Caring for others has always been at the heart of who Krystal is. She has spent years volunteering in her community, giving her time generously, and proudly serving as P & C President at her children’s school to support local families.
Recently, her dreams were finally falling into place. Krystal had just begun her dream job, a childcare traineeship she worked incredibly hard to reach. She absolutely loved it. It gave her joy, purpose, and hope for a brighter future for her
family.
But life changed overnight.
With her diagnosis and the treatment ahead, Krystal has had to take extended leave from work. She is not well enough to continue during this fight for her life. As a single parent, losing her job means losing her only source of income — and with four children who each require extra support, the financial pressure has become overwhelming.
The Reality They’re Facing
The months ahead will bring:
- Long travel days for treatment
- Relentless medical appointments
- Scans, tests, and medications
- Days where Krystal is too sick to function
- And the everyday bills that never stop, even when your whole world does
Krystal’s children need routine, security, and the reassurance that Mum is close. But as treatment intensifies, even simple daily moments will become harder.
More than anything, Krystal wants to focus on fighting this cancer and being present for her kids — keeping life stable for them during the scariest moment of their lives.
No parent should ever have to choose between fighting for their life and providing for their children.
What Immunotherapy Does — and Why It Matters
Immunotherapy helps the body’s immune system recognise and attack cancer. For
mesothelioma, it can:
- Help the immune system identify and target cancer
- Slow or reduce cancer growth
- Manage symptoms
- Improve quality of life
- Extend time — time Krystal desperately wants with her children
It offers hope of more time, where there often isn’t any… but it is demanding, intense, and
exhausting.
How Your Support Will Help
Every donation — no matter how small — will directly help Krystal and her children with:
- Medical costs not fully covered by the PBS
- Travel and care expenses for treatment
- Rent, groceries, and essential living costs while she is unable to work
- Additional support for her four special needs children during the hardest period of their lives
Your kindness gives them breathing room, hope, and the strength to face each day without the unbearable weight of financial fear.
From Our Family to Yours
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing Krystal’s story. Your support — in any form — means more than you could ever know.
Thank you for helping her fight for more time with her children.
Thank you for giving them strength when theirs is running low.
Thank you for reminding this family that they are not alone.
With gratitude,
Nicole Hughes and Michelle Jenkins
