Krystal Donnell was, until recently, a typical 41-year-old single mother doing everything she could to hold life together for her youngest child. She has three children total—two grown, and her youngest, just five years old, requiring extra care due to autism and other special needs. Her days were already full, balancing the constant demands of parenting with a full-time job. Then, without warning, everything changed. On May 1st 2026, in the middle of her usual routine, Krystal began to notice something wasn’t right—her steps felt unsteady, her legs suddenly unreliable. By the very next day, May 2nd 2026, her condition had escalated into a terrifying reality: a rapid, ascending paralysis that crept from her feet upward to her neck. In a matter of hours, she lost the ability to walk, to lift her arms, even to feed herself or perform the most basic daily tasks independently. By May 4th 2026, her situation had become critical. Krystal was transferred to the intensive care unit at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where doctors placed a central line and began urgent plasmapheresis treatments. The hope is to stop the progression of the paralysis and begin to uncover—and treat—the underlying cause of this sudden, life-altering condition. In just a few days, Krystal’s world shifted completely—from caring for her family to fighting for her own recovery.
At this moment, Krystal is surrounded by a team of specialists—intensivists, neurologists, and others—working urgently to understand what has happened to her. She has undergone extensive testing, including MRIs and lumbar punctures, yet there is still no definitive diagnosis. Doctors suspect a severe neurological condition such as Guillain-Barré syndrome or another form of polyneuropathy, but answers remain uncertain as her body continues to fight. While Krystal battles this sudden and devastating paralysis, another reality is closing in just as quickly. As the sole provider for her and her youngest child, her inability to work has placed her in immediate financial crisis. Without assistance, she is at risk of losing her home—the very place her and her youngest child depend on for stability and safety. The weight of medical bills, ongoing treatments, rehabilitation, and the need for specialized equipment is overwhelming, and it continues to grow each day.
The funds raised will go directly toward giving Krystal a fighting chance—not only covering her medical care and therapy but also helping to secure housing and basic necessities for her family during this critical time. These resources are essential for her recovery and for maintaining some sense of normalcy. Every contribution, no matter the size, becomes a part of Krystal’s path forward helping her move closer to healing, to independence, and to recovery. Thank you for considering Krystal for your donation.
