I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but our family is in a situation where we could really use all the support we can get.

My mom is currently in the ICU after being admitted to the hospital with serious health complications. Over the past few days, she has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation (AFib), atrial flutter, diabetes, and a liver condition (fatty liver). Her doctors are still waiting on additional lab results but highly suspect her liver is also being affected by her heart condition, and they are continuing to monitor her closely. She is stable and in good hands, and we are so grateful for the care she is receiving.

This has been a very overwhelming and life-changing situation for all of us.

Just three weeks before this happened, she had started a new job. Because of that timing, her health insurance benefits have not yet gone into effect. She also does not currently qualify for Medicaid, and we are beginning the process of applying for disability—but as many know, that process can take time.

Due to her condition, she will not be able to return to work or have income for the foreseeable future. In addition to hospital expenses, she will have ongoing costs including medications (expected to be at least several hundred dollars per month), follow-up appointments, transportation, dietary needs, and basic living expenses like rent.

If you know my mom, you know the kind of person she is. She has a huge heart, a deep faith in God, and a way of seeing the best in people, often giving whatever she can, even when she doesn’t have much herself. She is also the most incredible “Meemaw” to my son, Avery. From the moment he was born, she has shown up for him in every way, and he is so deeply attached to her. Their bond is incredibly special, and we want to do everything we can to help keep her healthy and here for him for many years to come.

Our family is doing everything we can to support her, but the financial burden is more than we can manage alone without putting significant strain on our own households.

Our goal is set to help cover a few months of her basic living and medical expenses while we work to get longer-term support in place. Truly, any amount helps more than we can express. I will personally be managing and directing all funds raised to ensure they go toward her medical care and essential living expenses.

My mom is a very faith-driven person, and we are all praying hard for her healing and trusting God to carry her through this. We know she has a long road ahead, but we also know she is not walking it alone.
