Support Kristie Choi's Fight Against Cancer

Two weeks ago, my best friend, Kristie Choi, was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer. They discovered it during an emergency surgery, where they had to remove a 7 inch mass, her right ovary, and a handful of lymph nodes. We soon found out that it had progressed to stage 3, and we are devastated at the prognosis she was given.

This cancer, Primitive Neuro-Ectodermal Tumor (PNET) is a type of cancer usually found in the brain, but the biggest differentiation with Kristie’s tumor is that it was found near her right ovary. Her exact diagnosis has less than 100 documented cases. Her doctors have found several other abnormalities that make it an off-branch of PNET, making this case incredibly vague and incomparable to any other PNET cases.

There were also some serious post-op complications that caused Kristie to be readmitted to the hospital for a week and a half, causing delay in starting her chemo treatment. But through her doctor’s recommendation, Kristie and Phil have decided to pick up and move their entire lives to Houston, where she’ll be receiving aggressive chemotherapy and radiation at MD Anderson despite her ongoing post-surgery complications.

These funds will go directly toward their housing in Houston, the tremendous amount of money needed to relocate their belongings, and of course, medical bills. Due to the diagnosis, Kristie had to leave her beloved career and her family is now relying on a single income.
