Kristi has been one of my closest friends since 2005 when we started working together. This girl has been through so many hardships, more than any person should have to EVER have to endure, especially at her age.
This is the story of her most recent battle….On April 15th (her 39th birthday), she was taken by ambulance to the St. Cloud Hospital Emergency room with abdominal pain. After numerous labs, ultrasound and CT scan, it was the scan that revealed a large tumor inside her stomach. She was admitted that day. A biopsy was performed the following morning. Kristi was not getting a definite answer on what exactly the tumor was. She took it upon herself to do TONS of research (you know Kristi) and realized this is very serious and more than just a foreign object in her body. She called the Mayo and set up an appointment. On May 12th, she met with a doctor at the Mayo. It was there, she was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer.
On June 4th, she underwent a total gastrectomy, as well as removal of her spleen and 25% of her pancreas. The 10 hour surgery went as good as expected, however, her recovery has not been. She has been having pain, extreme nausea, exhaustion, weakness and no appetite.
As most of you know, Kristi and Scott also have littles at home, two of which are special needs. Scott has been driving back and forth from home, as well as staying in the hospital while their oldest daughter takes care of everyone and everything at home. As you can imagine, driving back and forth, hospital stays, and numerous amounts of medical bills adds up fast.
Scott and Kristi and their family have received an unimaginable amount of support and messages from people asking how to help. They appreciate ALL of it and my hope is that this GoFundMe will make it easier for them to direct people how to help. All donations will go towards medical bills, continued treatment, gas for travel, hotel stays, & meals for the kiddos at home.
