Hi there, my name is Taylor. My best friend Kristen and her husband Ricardo brought their beautiful baby Bella (and the best niece ever) into this world in August of 2024, 12 weeks earlier than expected. Amongst the premie “drama” we like to call it, in April of 2025 Bella landed herself on the very short list of baby’s under 5 years old with a Choroid Plexus tumor with atypical Choroid Plexus Papilloma in her skull.

After a long drive to Renown Children’s Emergency room with a bulging soft spot and a not so short Care Flight to the University of San Francisco (Oakland), Kristen and her family spent the next 3 weeks in the Ronald Macdonald House as Bella fought for her life through unidentified pinpoint seizures, hydrocephalus crowding her brain, neoplasm pain, and learning to eat all over again. After multiple surgeries to remove the tumor as well as a left ventricular mass, shunts and tubes were removed and Bella finally came home to her older brother on an NG Tube 3 weeks later.

There are still countless scans, lumbar punctures, physical therapy and extensive testing to go through to see what exactly caused this one in a thousand tumor to grow and if it will spread or come back again.

Amongst the medical side of things, Kristen is currently on a leave of absence from the City to be able to handle the influx of daily doctors appointments and unfortunately has not been receiving a paycheck almost this entire time. Ricardo has been doing an amazing job working extremely long days to make up for the time lost to be able to take care of the family, however this is our opportunity to take care of some of the burden. “It takes a village” is an understatement at this rate and anything helps as this process is only going to continue. Insurance only covers so much, the mortgage doesn’t pause and their son still deserves to be a kid too!
