Update 2: Surgery went great! I’m still recovering in the medical compression binder so it hasn’t quite hit me yet Thank you so much to all who have donated so far, it will help immensely to keep me fed and keep my bills paid until I’m ready to go back to work. As far as the actually surgery goes, it was technically covered by insurance, and after my deductible and coinsurance, the part I’m responsible for is a little over $5,000. So please keep sharing to help me reach that goal!
Update: Surgery is a little over a week away! If you don’t know me very well, I’m an incredibly anxious person and living as a young adult in today’s fresh hot dystopia is already a lot to handle The closer it gets the more anxious become, not only because anesthesia freaks me out and I’m scared of the recovery process, but also because of what this step means in my transition. I can’t help but think about how it means I’ll be able to exist in my body (right now feels like merely surviving), but that is somehow dangerous and makes me a threat to people who know nothing about me. Every time I have these thoughts I have to remind myself that every “con” is external, a thought that someone else might have, and every “pro” brings a genuine flutter of euphoria in my chest. I just want to be okay, and the hyper-independent in me absolutely hates asking for help, but I know I can’t do this alone. Thank you so much for your support!
Hi, I’m Kris. As some already know, I am transgender. Today is my birthday and also the day I am taking my first dose of testosterone! :)
I’m excited to start this journey, but there is one huge obstacle left: Top Surgery. My chest causes intense dysphoria, which I know will only get worse once the effects of testosterone start to become visible. At the moment, top surgery can be covered by insurance after at least 6 months of hormone therapy. However, come January 20, the next presidential administration has said they will come after trans rights starting day one. With that being said, I can’t even be sure insurance will cover it at all by the time we get to that six-month mark.
This is the starting point for the fundraiser as I continue to research doctors and pricing, but I am fairly certain that I would need to pay for the surgery out-of-pocket, as well as be able to afford at least three weeks off of work for recovery.
If you have anything to give at all, it would be wholeheartedly appreciated.
love u guys,
KP
