Our family is living through a nightmare we never imagined possible.

Four years ago, a fire started on a neighboring farm tore through our lives and destroyed everything we had built — our home, our barns, our kennels, our equipment, our livelihood, and 26 beloved dogs who were the heart of Krieghund Farm.

It wasn’t just property we lost.

We lost our security, our identity, our stability, and the future we were working so hard to give our children.

Since that day, we have been fighting with everything we have — through grief, trauma, homelessness, rebuilding, and countless sleepless nights — to stay afloat and keep our family and remaining dogs safe.

This week, after four long years, our civil trial ended in a verdict that has left us in total devastation.

Despite the overwhelming losses we suffered, the jury in a small rural community awarded us nothing. We walked out of that courtroom shattered and terrified, wondering how we would survive this blow.

We are heartbroken.

We are exhausted.

We are overwhelmed.

And we are trying desperately not to lose the last pieces of our life that remain.

We are starting the appeal process — because we cannot give up.

But the appeals process is enormously expensive.

The trial transcript alone — which is required just to BEGIN an appeal — is around $10,000, and the full appellate process will cost far more.

We are a family of four who lost our home, our animals, our income, and our entire business structure.

We are doing everything in our power not to close Krieghund Farm and rehome the dogs who are our family.
