A Note Regarding Online Speculation from KP's Family (Sept 19th)
We've become aware that KP's story has been shared by several individuals online, and unfortunately some assumptions are being made about what happened. We wanted to provide a brief clarification based on the information we currently have.
On the night of the incident, KP was walking back to his apartment, a route he has walked many times before that is approximately a 10 minute walk. He was found on a sidewalk during the route home. While the circumstances surrounding his injuries remain unclear, there is currently no direct evidence pointing to foul play.
At this time, it is entirely possible that this was a tragic accident. We understand that people are concerned and wanting answers, but speculation can be difficult for our family as we focus on KP's recovery.
We respectfully ask that everyone refrain from making assumptions or sharing unverified information online. If additional facts become available, we will share them when appropriate. Right now, our priority is supporting KP as he continues to heal.
Thank you for understanding, for your prayers, and for the incredible support you have shown our family.
On September 12th, KP Pillstrom, a junior at Ole Miss and proud member of Pi Kappa Phi, was found unconscious on the sidewalk while walking back to his apartment with severe facial injuries. While we believe the injuries may have resulted from an accidental fall, the exact circumstances remain unknown, and KP has no memory of the accident.
What we do know is that KP has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Anyone who knows KP knows he is hardworking, kind, independent, and determined. He has always taken pride in supporting himself while balancing college, work, and everyday responsibilities. Now, he is facing one of the most difficult challenges of his life.
Following the accident, KP was transported to a trauma center in Jackson, Mississippi, where he received treatment for multiple facial fractures and other serious injuries. Thankfully, he was able to return home briefly to allow time for swelling to go down before heading back to Jackson for the next phase of treatment.
KP's first surgery is tentatively scheduled for this Friday and will focus on repairing the broken bones in his face. He is expected to remain in the hospital for several days following the procedure. Unfortunately, this surgery is only the beginning. Additional reconstructive surgeries and ongoing medical care will likely be necessary in the weeks and months ahead.
As KP focuses on healing, the financial burden on him and his family will continue to grow.
The hospital where KP's surgeries are taking place is approximately three hours from his parents' home, requiring frequent travel, hotel stays, meals, and time away from work so they can be by his side every step of the way. At the same time, KP will be unable to attend classes or work while doctors determine the full scope and timeline of his recovery, leaving him without his normal income during recovery.
We are creating this fundraiser to help ease the financial strain on KP and his family so they can focus on what matters most: his healing and recovery.
Funds raised will help cover:
- Medical and recovery expenses
- Reconstructive surgery costs
- Travel expenses for treatment and follow-up care
- Hotel accommodations and meals for family members
- Lost income during recovery
- School-related expenses
- Other unexpected costs associated with a lengthy recovery process
Right now, our goal is simple: help KP get through his surgeries, support his recovery, and surround him with the love, encouragement, and resources he needs to heal.
We know many people are concerned about KP and want to follow his progress. We will continue to share updates here as we receive information about his surgeries, recovery, and road ahead. Your prayers, encouragement, and support mean so much to KP and his family, and we are grateful to have such a caring community standing beside them during this difficult time.
Please keep KP and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate the challenging days ahead. We are deeply grateful for the incredible support already shown by his family, friends, Pi Kappa Phi brothers, the Ole Miss community, and everyone who has reached out with encouragement.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and keep KP in your prayers.
Thank you for standing beside KP and his family during this difficult time and for helping provide the support they need on his road to recovery. ❤️
