Please see updates❤️❤️
Hi everyone, my name is Koren, and I’m reaching out for support as I navigate a difficult medical journey. I have a rare vascular condition called Renal Nutcracker Syndrome (NCS), which is likely caused by my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). I have recently been referred to UCSF for specialized care, which will require multiple trips from Fresno, including a major surgery that will involve a long hospital stay and recovery period.
What is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)?
EDS is a connective tissue disorder that affects my body’s ability to produce strong, stable collagen. This means my joints are extremely loose (hypermobile EDS) and my tissues—including blood vessels—are fragile. Because of this, I have developed Renal Nutcracker Syndrome, a painful vascular compression disorder. EDS has also caused me to develop numerous health issues as well.
What is Renal Nutcracker Syndrome (NCS)?
NCS occurs when my left renal vein becomes compressed between major arteries, restricting blood flow from my kidney. This causes severe symptoms such as chronic fatigue, kidney pain, dysautonomia (which affects my heart rate and blood pressure), and Severe Pelvic Congestion Syndrome due to the formation of painful collateral veins. These veins develop as my body tries to compensate for the blockage, leading to significant pelvic pain and circulation issues.
untreated nutcracker syndrome can cause kidney problems or even failure. Luckily I am not in kidney failure, but getting treatment for this while I am still young is important to my overall health and well being.
A Surgery for this condition will not only save my kidney function long term but could help relieve some of the symptoms I experience from it.
Why I Need Help
I will be traveling multiple times to UCSF for evaluations, testing, and surgery, which will require:
✅ Gas & transportation costs for trips between Fresno & San Francisco
✅ Hotel stays for pre-op and post-op appointments
✅ Medical expenses not fully covered by insurance
✅ Financial support for my husband and me while I am traveling/recovering and unable to work
no date is set yet for a surgery but the vascular surgery team is almost done getting everything together so I can get my first appointment(s) for more in depth testing, consultation, etc. So raising money in advance is very important for us to do!
I know times are tough for many, and I deeply appreciate any support—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page. Every little bit helps relieve the stress of focusing on my health instead of financial burdens.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
With gratitude,
Koren & Brandon
