Hello, my name is Dave, a member of Sport Frontier Global, LTD and part of International Development for North Rugby in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I am raising money to help Kong travel to and play rugby in New Zealand at the Crusaders Global Academy this April.
Kong is one of our local Thai rugby players. He was born in Chiang Mai. Kong attended Prince Royal’s College (PRC) where he began playing rugby. He graduated from PRC and currently studies at Maejo University. He is in his third year of studying economics specializing in Digital Economics and Cooperatives. His family resides in Chiang Mai, and his mom and dad run a local food business. They cook and sell food at local markets and rugby events. He has been playing rugby for 8-9 years and normally plays hooker. He has also played lock, flanker, and 8.
He is very excited to travel to New Zealand and attend the Crusaders Global Academy in Christchurch. His dream is to play rugby as a professional.
Kong is a natural leader both on and off the pitch. He is strong in set pieces, great with the ball in hand, and makes his presence felt on and off the pitch.
Perhaps his best asset besides his drive and determination is the fact that he is genuinely humble and such a natural leader. He is a great athlete and a better person. He always assists in coordination with all our Thai players, and when Kong is not playing, he is normally helping and working with his parents at their business. Kong is active in North Rugby and usually helps set up tournaments and acts as a referee and/or assistant referee. He currently holds World Rugby Coaching and Match Official qualifications and has coached Maejo University 7s. He has an outstanding grasp of the English language and is often sought out to translate for his teammates.
For the reasons above, Kong was selected as the next Cobras Rugby Club pathway player. He has played rugby with multiple clubs in Chiang Mai, including PRC, Maejo University, Chiang Mai All Stars, and Cobras Rugby. Kong was one of Cobras Rugby's original Thai players and has been with the team for 4 years. This year has been a great year for Kong as he was selected for and represented Chiang Mai province for the provincial Rugby 7s and 15s. Kong loves playing rugby. Playing rugby has opened up new friendships and opportunities, and he is looking forward to what lies ahead in his rugby career.
Cobras Rugby is actively involved with clubs globally to find appropriate venues to showcase local Thai rugby talent. The club works with PRC and other local rugby clubs to identify players that need to be noticed and can have an impact in higher-level rugby. Kong was identified for the Crusaders Academy opportunity and will be able to increase his rugby skills, learn from a proven academy and play in local NZ games.
We are always searching for avenues to display local Thai players and provide options to pursue the sport we love and perhaps, have the world take notice.
