Support Kolbi’s Recovery with CRPS, AMPS, and FND

Hi, my name is Kalin McGarry, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my parents, Jennifer and Brett, to help my younger sister, Kolbi, access the life-changing neurorehabilitation treatment she desperately needs at [re+active] physical therapy & wellness in El Segundo, California.
Kolbi is 22 years old and has been battling Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type 1 (CRPS-I), Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome (AMPS), and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) for the past seven years. These conditions have robbed her of her mobility, independence, and the simple joys of daily life. Despite enduring excruciating pain, involuntary movements, paralysis, and endless medical trauma, Kolbi has fought tirelessly to reclaim her life. Now, she has a chance—if we can get her there.
What started as a simple sports injury has turned into a daily fight for survival, affecting every aspect of her life and leaving her unable to walk, speak, swallow, or even care for herself at times.
In February 2018, when Kolbi was just 15 years old, she sustained bilateral tibial (shin bone) stress fractures during her freshman season of indoor track. As she began to recover, something strange happened—her pain became unbearable and far out of proportion to the injury. Her legs became swollen, red, purple, and mottled, with dramatic temperature fluctuations. Doctors were baffled. After months of unanswered questions, Kolbi was rushed to UVA Pain Management, where she was finally diagnosed with CRPS. However, this was just the beginning of an overwhelming journey filled with misdiagnoses, failed treatments, and heartbreaking setbacks.
Kolbi has endured multiple hospitalizations and intensive pediatric treatment programs in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and southeastern Virginia, where she received additional diagnoses of AMPS and FND. She has faced countless flare-ups that have stolen her ability to walk and move her limbs, suffered constant full-body burning pain that no medication can relieve, and experienced profound isolation as life continued without her.
Despite it all, Kolbi has never given up. She has fought to restore movement three different times, only for her body to fail her again.
Two years ago, she found purpose as an online fitness and nutrition coach, determined to help others despite her chronic illnesses. But in January 2024, a routine medical exam triggered full-body paralysis. Just like that, everything Kolbi had worked so hard to regain was taken from her again. A year later, these challenges remain.
Kolbi’s condition is unpredictable. One day, she may be mobile; the next, she is completely paralyzed—for days, weeks, or even months at a time. This relentless uncertainty leaves her feeling trapped in her own body, stuck in a life she never chose, while the rest of the world moves on.
But there is hope.
In August 2024, Kolbi discovered [re+active] physical therapy & wellness, a clinic specializing in integrated neurorehabilitation for conditions like hers. For the first time in seven years, she felt heard. She became part of an online community of [re+active] clinicians and FND patients, learning to manage her symptoms and improve her quality of life.
While the FND Membership has been monumental for Kolbi’s progress—helping her process and truly understand her conditions—online support isn’t enough. Kolbi needs intensive, hands-on therapy to regain her independence and functionality.
The program at [re+active] offers a holistic, six-week integrated treatment for both FND and CRPS, including neurological physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, and yoga therapy—five days per week. This treatment could be life-changing, equipping Kolbi with the tools and confidence she needs to manage her symptoms, improve her mobility, and live a more independent life.
However, [re+active] is an out-of-network provider, and insurance won’t cover half of the therapies she needs. We need your help. The estimated cost of the neurorehabilitation program alone is $23,800. In addition, our family will need approximately $13,000 for travel, lodging, and living expenses while Kolbi and our mom stay near the clinic for six weeks.
We are humbly asking for your support to help Kolbi get the treatment she desperately needs. Your donation will directly help cover the cost of Kolbi’s program and the expenses required for her to be in California for treatment. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to giving Kolbi the future she deserves.
If you’re unable to give financially, please share this campaign and keep Kolbi in your prayers. Every share, every kind word, and every act of support makes a difference in her recovery. The more people who hear Kolbi’s story, the closer she gets to receiving the specialized care she so urgently needs.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in Kolbi and standing with us on this journey. Your generosity, kindness, and prayers mean the world to our family.
Together, we can give Kolbi the chance to live fully.
With gratitude,
The McGarry Family (Brett, Jennifer, Kalin, Kolbi, and Blayz)
