Support Koda’s Journey to Comfort and Care

Hi everybody,

My name is Molly, and I am the mama of the best fuzzy boy in the world, Koda.

Last September of 2025, Koda was diagnosed with a bladder tumor, a type of cancer called Transitional Cell Carcinoma. I was absolutely devastated. I promised myself to give him the best rest of his life I possibly could. He was immediately started on Piroxicam, a strong anti-inflammatory with possible anti-cancer properties. The chemotherapy route was not chosen, due to being extremely expensive and not wanting to put him through being sick all the time due to chemotherapy drugs.

Since September, he’s been doing incredibly well. No issues.

Unfortunately, in the past recent weeks, he has started to have some blood in his urination, and has started having to strain a bit to urinate. He was taken to the vet, where they explained that this was more than likely a progression of his tumor that was now starting to block his urinary tract. Once again, I was devastated.

I started digging through the Internet and doing as much research as I can, and came across a procedure called Laser Ablation. While this is not a cure for his tumor, it could be a possible chance to have an oncologist use a microscopic laser to clear away any parts of the tumor that are blocking his urethra, to make whatever time he has left more comfortable.

For those of you who know Koda, you know that he is the absolute best dog in the world. He spent the majority of his life being abused and mistreated. And ever since I took him in, he’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. He is absolutely my best friend in the world, and he deserves a soft life. His beginning was difficult, and I don’t want that to be the way that his life ends.

After speaking to Tufts Veterinary Hospital, to move forward with this process he needs a consultation appointment which includes an ultrasound with anesthesia, and a BRAF test to confirm his cancer diagnosis. That alone will cost around $1000-$1100. If he is considered a candidate for Laser Ablation after that consultation, the surgery itself will run about $5,000.

Anything helps, donating, sharing, kind words.

Thank you.
