Support Koby’s Unexpected Tumor Journey

Hello! My 9 year old pit/lab mix, Koby, has completely shattered our hearts this week.

We took Koby in to the emergency vet on Veterans Day because we thought the “cyst” he had, had ruptured the night before. It was bleeding and he had a lot of fluid built up. Immediately after opening him up, i got a phone call. It was not a cyst, unfortunately it is a mass. And a large one at that. It’s so massive that they were unable to get good margins to remove it today. The vet decided to inject the mass with steroids and to send Koby home for 14 days with steroids and Benadryl to attempt to shrink the tumor. The goal is to have it shrink enough to have it removed and tested. We learned that the tumor is very aggressive against physical touch and when it reacted, Kobys body also reacted and that’s where the fluid came from.

At this point, the vet does believe that it looks like a stage 3 with how quickly it has grown. The cancer has likely spread through out his body already.

At this point, we are hoping that the steroid shrinks the tumor enough for us to get it removed and get an idea of what we are working with.

If it is as advanced as the vet has predicted, we could have a couple of months to a year left with Koby.

At this time we are hoping and praying but it’s looking like Kobert is getting his own thanksgiving plate this year. He has been in good spirits and is in good health otherwise but we are monitoring for the next 14 days.

We are simply just creating this to hopefully get some extra support and relief. With the holiday season approaching and current wedding planning, this unexpected expense has thrown us for a loop.

UPDATE 11/13:

We are once again rushing Koby to the vet due to him creating a hole where the tumor is located. He is being rushed to have it closed.
