Please help with Kobe’s medical care.
He’s more than an amazing dog; he is family. He is just a big ole cuddle bug. Kobe is a 3 yo American Bully who joined our family at 11 weeks, and instantly became our heart.
On Friday 9-13 he was at his regular vet to get checked out because his breathing was funny. After chest x-rays that were clear, an oral examination revealed a mass at the back of his mouth impeding his airway. Kobe was intubated to assist his breathing and given steroids to hopefully bring down the swelling enough that he could be extubated and I could drive him to the emergency hospital. Once he was extubated, his breathing again became compromised so he was sedated and intubated again. Arrangements were made to transport Kobe to Philadelphia. He was then transported to Penn Vet Emergency by his Vet, Dr. Froehlich, and a tech.
Once he was at Penn Vet, it was decided he should not remain sedated and intubated for an extended amount of time, and since the surgery team would not be in until Monday. Kobe was extubated and given a temporary tracheotomy so he could breathe on his own. CT scans were inconclusive of the total size of the mass. On Monday 9-16 Ultrasound imaging was obtained so surgical could map out a game plan. It was decided the best way to access the mass was through his neck. Kobe’s surgery was a success, the mass was removed. Kobe will continue with the tracheotomy until post-op swelling subsides, then it can be removed. We await histopathology of the mass to see what the next steps, if any, are required. Kobe will be in the hospital until at least Friday. We very excited that he can have visitors tomorrow Sept 18th, and can’t wait to see him. The original estimate was for 20,000 if he was released by Tuesday. The medical fees are mounting steadily, if you can afford to make a contribution for his medical care, it would be greatly appreciated. No amount is to small every little bit helps!! Prayers for clean histopathology results and for a full recovery gladly accepted. Please share. Thank you so much.
