We are reaching out to you today in a time of great need for our Deputy Matt Kirchner. At approximately 10 pm on July 27, 2025, Deputy Kirchner and his probationary officer (Officer in Training) were involved in a serious accident while on duty. He and his Probationary Officer were responding to a fight call at the Ingles parking lot in Halls, when their cruiser was struck head-on by another vehicle.

The Incident
At approximately 10 PM, while undertaking his duties to keep our community safe, Deputy Kirchner sustained severe injuries in the accident. He has a dislocated tibia/fibula, three fractures in his left ankle, bruising to his ribs, and various lacerations. He underwent surgery last night and will face a significant recovery process ahead.
Thankfully, his Probationary Officer did not require treatment, and the driver of the other vehicle also sustained injuries, which are still being assessed.
A Long Road to Recovery
As Deputy Kirchner begins his recovery journey, we want to rally around him and his family during this challenging time. The road ahead will be long and demanding, filled with rehabilitation efforts and emotional support. His family will need assistance due to Deputy Kirchner being unable to work his second jobs, family missing work and unforeseen expenses. as they navigate this unexpected hardship.
