Support Knott Street Boxing: Equip and Inspire Youth

Tax deductible
In the heart of North Portland, there is a beacon of resilience and empowerment: Knott Street Boxing (KSB). With roots dating back to 1951, Knott Street Boxing stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the North Portland community. For decades, it has been more than a fitness program - it has been a sanctuary for young black youth, and a place where aspirations are supported. Knott Street Boxing is a steward of North Portland's rich heritage, we recognize the profound impact that Knott Street Boxing has had on generations of young Portlanders. From its humble beginnings to its present-day legacy, this program has been a cornerstone of strength and unity.

Our youth program is located within the historic walls of the Matt Dishman Community Center. Through the skill of boxing Knott Street Boxing teaches invaluable life lessons in discipline, resilience, and camaraderie – that transcend the boundaries of the ring and resonate within the fabric of our community. The Knott Street Boxing Club focuses on school-age youth in the Portland area including Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties. Current programming includes learning discipline, structure, and self-respect through the sport of boxing. Hours currently are 5-7pm Wednesday – Friday, 12-2pm Saturday and financing is for as many as 50 youths weekly. Our organization’s target audience is underserved, underprivileged, and extremely low income youth from Portland and beyond.

The funds are for new equipment and to serve greater number of participants we serve. The foundation would support youth who can’t afford membership dues or new equipment like mouth guards and shoes. Funds will also be used for transportation for our boxers to and from competitions, many of which are long trips away from home. For example, competitions in Spokane, Seattle, and Bend are ones we regularly participate in. However, our financial situation currently threatens our ability to take our kids to these meets. These youths do not come from backgrounds where they or their parents can afford to take them on these trips. The kids love these competitions and benefit from them greatly. It provides a way for them to compete for trophies, test themselves, visit new places, and meet new people. These trips motivate the whole team and create opportunities that the boxers never forget. All the kids look forward to them.
