Meet Charlie! Charlie was born May 6, 2024 and came to Kitty City Cat Rescue from a local county shelter on July 1, 2024. At first sight we thought he had a severe eye infection; however, our vet gave us a much more serious diagnosis. Charlie was born with eyelid agenesis (no upper eyelids) in both eyes. If not corrected, there would be corneal scarring perforation and could result in blindness. Charlie was referred to Southeast Animal Eye Specialists in Newman, GA where the diagnosis was confirmed. Dr Eric Storey, told us there was a way to correct the condition, but he needed to grow a bit. Charlie went back to see Dr Storey in June of this year to take the next step for his new eyelids. The procedure involved bilateral lip to lid upper eyelid reconstructive surgery. This provides non-haired upper lateral eyelids that greatly improve Charlie’s prognosis for lifelong vision. Charlie had the surgery Aug 12 - it was a 6 hour surgery costing $3,300.29! He is doing great! The cover picture shows Charlie before the surgery and the second picture the day after. The receptionist loving called him our Frankenkitty! We are excited for Charlie to heal completely and find a forever home with the PURRFECT family; however, as a non-profit rescue we really need help to cover the cost of the surgery. Kitty City Cat Rescue is a small, 501(c)3 nonprofit, cage free cat rescue located at 4530 Knight Road, Macon GA 31220. All monies received will be used the cover the cost of the surgery. If any additional monies are received, we will use them to cover vet costs for Charlie’s friends at our rescue. https://www.facebook.com/KittyCityMacon/
