Hi, I’m Kit! I’m a 28 year old transgender man trying again to get top surgery after multiple disappointing experiences.
I came out at 14 and started hormone replacement therapy as soon as I was able to at 18, which was a dream come true after 4 long years :)
The first time I tried to get top surgery, I was 18 and realized I wasn’t in a financially strong enough position to follow through. I tried again at 22 and was denied at the last minute by United HealthCare. The surgeon kept my $1k deposit and I decided I wasn’t going $10k into debt to pay what my health insurance should have paid per my policy.
This time, I chose an office with an insurance team that fights for their patients to give myself the best shot possible, and we were all again denied by United HealthCare. I’ve been reliving the same devastating experience again and to be honest, I’m struggling.
I’m an athlete and work out for a living, and having needed to constantly bind and hide myself for 14 years has only grown more painful for my mind and body.
I didn’t want to end up relying on GoFundMe but I believe in this community’s ability to help each other, and I think it’s important to admit when you need help.
Thanks so much for listening and I appreciate anything :)
