Support Kisha's Last Semester!

Hello community,
I am nearing the finish line of my doctoral program. Although this is extremely exciting, the joy of finishing is overshadowed by my inability to cover my tuition. I have maxed out my student loans and my department no longer has the funds for a scholarship. To finish and graduate in the spring I would need to pay the tuition out of pocket. I am in my first full year as an education entrepreneur so I do not have the capacity to pay. I am seeking the support of my community to ensure that my last semester is smooth and that I can graduate.

My dissertation explores the teacher education practices of Black social movement organizations, specifically the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Through archival analysis and interviews I am working to excavate conceptions of teacher education and Black education from the Mississippi Freedom Schools of 1964, an alternative site of education that was constructed and managed primarily by SNCC. The implications of my research includes new understandings of teacher education with a focus on preparing teachers to teach Black children, new considerations for curriculum development and for national legislative changes.

Your contribution to my tuition is deeply appreciated. I fully understand that my doctoral journey is both a personal and communal triumph. Thank you for this demonstration of love!
