Support King's Medical Needs and New Home

Hello! I'm Elizabeth, a dog trainer based in the Little Rock area. About a week ago, my neighbors told me to watch out for a little black Chihuahua running around. No one had been able to grab him - he was fast and a little bit growly. I decided to try my luck, and I scooped him up. Turns out he was pretty scared.

I split custody with my neighbor for a week while we tried to identify and track down his owner. We learned that his name was King and that this person was deceased. Another neighbor helped us make fliers and posted some where we learned he'd been living. No additional people came forward to claim him.

I took him to my vet on Friday, and they were able to get his previous records from two other vet clinics (all he had on him were city licenses and rabies tags from 2019). We learned he was 7.4 lbs and nine years old. He has some atrophy in his back legs and has been not using his front right paw selectively, so he is on limited movement while taking anti-inflammatory meds and gabapentin. He is heart worm negative. He's also missing quite a few teeth.

We got him on a sample for heart worm meds and flea and tick, but I'd like to get him at least a six month supply for now to get him started, and both are pricey. He will also need a cryptorchid surgery, which is invasive and more medically complex, due to only one descended testicle. He does need the surgery, since he is at a higher risk of cancer if he does not get it. This will be about $500 between the more complex surgery and anesthesia. I spent $200 on Friday for the examination and medication and nail trimming. The remaining amount will be used to get him his own bed, some sweaters, and food. I've been covering this, and I'd like to get him set up for his new home if possible.

I'd also like to find a loving home for him. He is mostly potty trained, but may need some support with this, as he did mark a few times on one day that I wasn't watching him closely and didn't give him enough opportunities to go outside. He does well in a crate and when he's contained in a bathroom. He loves other dogs and has a knack of befriending even dog aggressive dogs, including one of my own. If you are interested, please keep in mind that he is elderly and will likely have some high medical needs as a senior. He's very loving towards the people he gets to know, and tends to bark a bit at strangers but is not a barky sort of dog. He loves to cuddle and will knock his head against your chest for you to pet him, and he loves face rubs. He's a fantastic little guy.
