As many of you know and for those that don’t Julian Contreras opened up KIN Coffee Bar downtown San Luis Obispo, CA a little under a year ago. Julian grew up in San Luis Obispo, with his family and has been a Barista in the community for many years helping out different coffee shops. This past year, he decided to fulfill his own dreams and open up his own shop to offer something different to our downtown.

As someone that worked closely with him in the beginning stages of starting his business it was pretty amazing to see his dream come to life. He worked hard and consistently to earn his own money to start the business and worked tireless nights with his own hands to transform once a donut shop with bubble gum pink walls into a tranquil space for us all to gather and enjoy. He has brought a space and a vibe that is authentic to his journey and has created a place where people can converse fluidly.

When you walk into KIN Coffee Bar you automatically feel like you are a part of the family and are greeted with a smile by either Julian or one of his amazing baristas. KIN Coffee Bar brews local coffee by Cacti Coffee Roasters and offers pastries by Buttercup Bakery & Café. It has been a location that gives back and supports local whether it may be posting your flyer in their window, selling artwork, giving proceeds to Dream Makers SLO, or having a space that individuals can use for open mic, gypsy jazz, or date nights.

However, with the events that have occurred this past month it has really hurt a lot of businesses including KIN Coffee Bar. As of right now they are unsure if they are going to be able to keep their doors open as they have not been approved for loans yet.  They have furloughed all of their employees and are barely making ends meet. Therefore, I decided to pay it forward and start this Gofundme page to help them out, as I would not want to see this business close. If you love coffee, matcha, and KIN Coffee Bar please consider donating a $1, $5, $10 or anything you might be able to afford right now. Truly every dollar counts and I hope that with your support we can help the employees that have been let go with their bills, keep KIN Coffee Bar open , and help the other businesses they support.
